These pictures are created by painting on to front and back surfaces of multiple sheets of glass, which are layered one infront of the other with gaps between to create an actual depth. This means that the figures in the picture throw real shadows which move with any change of light source. The composition of the whole picture, and the relationships between the elements in it, alter with any change in environment and movement of the audience's viewpoint.

If a photograph represents a frozen instant; a narrative painting captures a story in a moment; a film might condense a year or a life into an hour and half, then these 2 to 3 dimensional pictures approximate a paused VCR, the action slipping back and forth between 2 frames; recent past and immediate future. Not frozen, captured or condensed but suspended and fidgeting.

This is wallpaper with volume; between its layers are those loaded seconds of recognition. The cool non-coloured unsurface of the glass lets people hang about, behind, in front, between one another, no longer up to their necks in background. This wallpaper uses moments as motifs.

These aren't carnivals or protest marches. The people, who make up these assemblies, are trying their hardest not to express themselves. These processions are free of the white noise of exhibitionism. The private narratives and restrained emotions contained in these peoplescapes leak out politely into the rooms where they hang.
